Mapping the Massacre of Aboriginals

On the 1st May 1838 at Slaughterhouse Creek fifteen heavily armed stockmen attacked and killed 300 Kamilaroi aboriginals. The massacre occurred just four months after 50 Kamilaroi people were killed by police at nearby Waterloo Creek

These two massacres and over 150 other massacres of aboriginal people are located on the Colonial Frontier Massacres in Eastern Australia 1788-1872 interactive map. The map is part of the University of Newcastle's efforts to record and document colonial frontier massacres in Australia. To qualify as a massacre six or more people have to have been killed.

The number of aboriginals killed in the frontier wars runs to the tens of thousands. So far the university's map accounts for around 4,000 aboriginal deaths.
