The Geography of Hunger in Chicago

In the USA 1 in 5 children lives in a household with food insecurity and are unable to consistently access the amount of food necessary for a healthy life. The Geography of Hunger is a Google Map that visualizes the rates of food insecurity in Chicago in 2009.

A study by the Greater Chicago Food Depository found that 1 in 5 of all residents in the city cannot be sure where their next meal is coming from. The map shows the rates of food insecurity in each Chicago neighborhood.

The Geography of Hunger in Chicago uses Derek Eder's popular Searchable Map Template for Google Fusion Tables. The template is a free, open source tool that can help you easily create a searchable, filterable Google Map pulling in data from any Fusion Table.
